Though not necessary, one may opt to carry binoculars or a camera to enjoy the scenery.

The Smithsonian Institution is the largest museum complex and research center in the world. It is composed from 19 museums and art galleries, 9 research centers and the National Zoological Park. The museum complex also includes outdoor museums.

The Smithsonian Institution is the keeper of a collection composed by over 142 billion objects representing the most important historical heritage of the United States of America. The tourists who want to visit the whole collection of this great museum complex would need to be prepared for a day of walking through all its galleries. Of course, it is practically impossible to see everything in a single visit. The best plan would be to choose one topic and to research only that in one visit. Depending on your area of interest, you can choose among the many existing museums, such as The Air and Space Museum, The African Art Museum, The American Art Museum, The Natural History Museum, The American History Museum, The American Indian Museum, the IMAX movie theaters and many many others. The custodians of the collection insist that the former member of the Beatles music band was a fanatic collector of postal stamps. The story goes that the cousin of John Lennon bought the stamp collection and offered it as a present to John Lennon when he was 9 years old. The John Lennon's collection consists of 565 postal stamps.

The Impressive Niagara Falls

Niagara Falls is one of the great natural wonders of the world, one of the best know tourist destinations in the world. The waterfalls are famous for their impressive natural beauty. They are also a great source of hydroelectric power.

The waterfalls of Niagara were formed at the end of the last Ice Age, during the Wisconsin glaciation. They are composed of three waterfalls located on the international border between the US state of New York and the Canadian province of Ontario. The Falls are located between the twin cities of Niagara Falls, one in Ontario, Canada and one in the state of New York, USA. They are at a distance of 121 km (75 miles) South-Southeast of Toronto, Ontario and 27 km (17 miles) north-northwest of Buffalo, New York State. The three waterfalls are forming together the southern end of the Niagara Gorge. The American Falls and the Bridal Veil Falls are located on the American side, the Horseshoe Falls is on the Canadian side of the border. The Goat Island is separating the Horseshoe Falls from the American Falls. The Luna Island is separating the Bridal Falls from the others waterfalls. The three waterfalls are on the Niagara River, a river connecting Lake Erie with Lake Ontario.

From all the waterfalls in the world, the Niagara Falls is having the highest flow rate, they are very wide and they have a vertical drop over 50 meters (165 feet). Their average water flow is almost 110,000 m3 (4 million cubic feet). Also, by flow rate and vertical height, the Horseshoe Falls is known as the most powerful waterfall in North America.

The Capitol Building in Washington DC

In the capital city, Washington DC, rises the grandiose and famous Capitol, one of the most impressive and most easily recognizable building in the US.

The Capitol is located on a plateau 26 meters above the Potomac River. There is the starting point of the National Mall, spreading on a surface of 2 km. It is the symbol of democracy for the people of the United States of America. The Capitol building is the center of the government for the legislative power and the United States Congress. The Dome of the Capitol is a fascinating piece of architectural art, built in a neoclassical and baroque style. For the last two centuries the Capitol was the meeting point of all forms of government and many historical decisions were taken here. In Washington DC, the Dome of the Capitol is on the fifth place among the tallest buildings.

Thomas Jefferson held a contest in 1792 to choose the projects to be used in the construction of the Capitol. The works on the Capitol were started in 1793, when President George Washington laid the cornerstone of the building. The construction has been carried out by African Americans. While the building was not completely finished yet, The Congress of the United States of America was reunited in 1800 for the first meeting in the Capitol of Washington.

Visiting the building's interior is a very popular tourist attraction in Washington DC. The guided tour includes usually a presentation of the political activities taking place here. Spellbound Museum in Massachusetts

In Salem, Massachusetts, you can find the Spellbound Museum wherein you can experience the original ‘Vampire and Ghost Tours’ at every 8 PM and it departs from the Salem Visitor’s Center Bell. Indian Orchard’s Titanic Museum

Some of the wealthy survivors of the sunken ship have donated some things to the museum as well as the fanatics. However, the original artifacts are overwhelmed by the fake ones.

It is said that the prices of artifacts that are sold by the shops around the museum (i.e. Jewelries, Titanic movie memorabilia like posters) has skyrocketed because of the many people who got curious about it since the ‘Titanic’ movie has been released. Every day, the museum is packed with a lot of visitors from everywhere in the country and around the world. The Titanic Historical Society’s President, Ed Kamuda runs a shop that sells a lot of things that relate to the Titanic cruise ship. He has met a lot of avid fans and other people that are curious about its different stories including the fictional Jack and Rose characters in the movie.

Distinctive Culture In The Southern United States

The United States shares a common culture throughout its entire territory, but there are some distinct features of the culture of the Southern United States. Its immigrant history, agricultural past, and conservative values set it apart from other regions in the USA.

Commonly referred to as the American South or Dixie, the Southern United States stretches from Maryland across to Texas and down to Florida, encompassing all states in that area. These states were historically very dependent on agriculture and slave labor. In fact, millions of African slaves were brought to the American South in the years before the American Civil War to work on plantations, especially cotton plantations. Although racial relations have continued to be strained in some parts of the South, this ethnic diversity has also led to the development of a unique Southern culture that includes African, European, and Native American influences.

The Southern United States contributes to world heritage through its important history related to slavery. As the generations have passed since slavery was abolished, it has become more obvious that the culture of black slaves has been permanently etched into modern Dixie cultural. This is especially notable in the culture of Southern music with styles such as blues, jazz, rock and roll, and spiritual being developed mostly in the American South. The religious culture of the South is one of the strongest in the United States and includes the Bible Belt, a region in which church attendance is especially high, particularly in Protestant and evangelical churches. The highest rate of church attendance has also contributed to the strong conservative values that the South still clings to today.

The United States of America is a multicultural nation in which the grand majority of the population is born from immigrants. Often described as a cultural melting pot, the USA has influenced pop culture around the world and attracted new citizens with the American Dream.

Perhaps the greatest contribution to world heritage from the United States is the international export of pop culture. This has been possible because of the massive number of different cultural influences which are combined with the general American population. Dozens of languages and religions are spoken and practiced throughout the USA by both locals and immigrants. Golden Gate Bridge, California

The Golden Gate Bridge is one of the internationally most renowned and most photographed bridges. It is the suspension bridge that connects San Francisco city/peninsula to Marin County, California. It has a 6-lane highway, 746 ft high, with the total length of 8,981 ft (2.7 km) and 90 ft wide.

The Golden Gate Bridge had originally the estimated cost of $100 M. The design was made because of Joseph Strauss’s thesis to design an 89 km-long railroad bridge, which was supposedly across the Bering Strait at the time, in the year 1916. He completed inland bridges of about 400 draw bridges though. Later, after some inputs from the consulting project experts, he promised that he could build the bridge for only $17 M. He spent 10 years of asking the support of the Northern California to realize the building of the bridge. Then, it was considered as practically, a suspension bridge was needed. The official name of the bridge was changed into ‘Golden Bridge and Highway District’ in 1923 by the Act of the state legislature. It opened on May 27, 1937.
