Worldwide Influence From the United Kingdom

Despite being a small group of island states off the coast of Europe, the United Kingdom has been one of the greatest world powers for hundreds of years. Four sovereign states on and around the island of Great Britain comprise the modern United Kingdom which contributes greatly to world heritage.

The United Kingdom has wielded incredible military and cultural power around the world since ancient times. In 1707, the Kingdom of Great Britain was established through the Acts of Union that brought together Scotland and England. The United Kingdom was formed in 1801 with the uniting of Ireland and Britain. During the 1800’s, the capital city of London was the largest city in the world and England wielded the greatest naval and imperial power on the globe. Beyond its extensive colonialism in India and Africa, the government of Great Britain also controlled the international economy because of its dominance in the area of world trade. Even today, many of the world’s leading nations, including the United States, can trace their roots back to England.

Colonialism made it possible for the United Kingdom to spread the cultures of England and Great Britain throughout the world. One of the major ways that the United Kingdom has contributed to world heritage is through the English language. It is now an international language used in the United States, Australia, Canada, South Africa, India, and other countries apart from the world’s greatest economic language. English literature has been important to the world since the 14th century, claiming many of the greatest written works in the world heritage of literature.

Enjoying Matoke In Different Forms

We all know plantain bananas to be the staple food of the Ugandan people and this until today is characteristic of the major meals in this country. The Ugandan cuisine is predominantly traditional owing to the fact that most dishes are made from locally grown foods.

It is amazing how the Ugandan people have turned the banana into an emblem of food art and every now and then new recipes are shared that teach new ways of cooking bananas. Food is just a small part of the rich Ugandan culture which is showcased in the language unification, manner of dressing and preparation of cooking foodstuffs. Since there are various tribes in Uganda, it is expected that the cuisines of one tribe will be different from the other. While the preparation may be different the use of fruit, bananas and yams are a factor that unifies them all.

The cooking of Ugandan food requires great skill but with a bit of mastery everyone can become an expert cook. The next time you are in Kampala, ask for a dish of matoke made from bananas and cooks in peanut sauce, bean stew, meat or fresh fish. This is the staple food that the Ugandans are so popular for. Matoke is prepared as a main meal and usually is accompanied by any stew but to eat like a true Ugandan one should consider the use of fish in dishes. The fish here is either smoked or sun dried after it has been salted and is one of the scrumptious meals in the Ugandan cuisine.

The Art of Making International Friends

Students travel all the time either to school or back home but what they are most thrilled about is travelling overseas. As a student the reasons for this type of travel are as much educational as they are recreational. In most cases the travel is for a short time period.

Exchange programs are a part of many schools curriculum and every year under this program a few students get to sit and learn with students from another school in the world. At first it can be scary because one is new and people are not comfortable relating with them. As time goes by however, you will realize that you have made new friends and are actually enjoying every minute of your stay. To hasten the interaction process a new student is encouraged to maintain a positive attitude and be kind to other students so that they do not have reason not to associate with you. It is important to follow the rules of the new school strictly so that the teachers will not be forced to either send you back prematurely or punish you.

When you get into an exchange forum in Kenya, you are likely to be paired up with schools from any part of the world. You will have many new encounters which you might want to remember and bringing a camera with you might be a good idea. Some people even prefer carrying a small video camera which they can use to record farewell messages of the friends they made. This is how international friendships begin and grow into lifelong associations.
