The United Kingdom was formed in 1801 with the uniting of Ireland and Britain. During the 1800’s, the capital city of London was the largest city in the world and England wielded the greatest naval and imperial power on the globe. Beyond its extensive colonialism in India and Africa, the government of Great Britain also controlled the international economy because of its dominance in the area of world trade. Even today, many of the world’s leading nations, including the United States, can trace their roots back to England.

Colonialism made it possible for the United Kingdom to spread the cultures of England and Great Britain throughout the world. One of the major ways that the United Kingdom has contributed to world heritage is through the English language. It is now an international language used in the United States, Australia, Canada, South Africa, India, and other countries apart from the world’s greatest economic language.
